Guest Docking

Guest Dock Procedures

General Information about the Guest Dock
American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 has approximately 70 feet of guest dock space, limited to vessels of no more than 8 feet in draft and 14 feet of beam. The first boat entering should go in as far forward as possible, leaving the remaining dock space available for another vessel. If the second vessel is relatively large, it should enter stern first. Upon arrival, immediately after securing the vessel, both for temporary daytime visits and for overnight reservations, the skipper must proceed to the Post 291 office (or to the bartender if the office is closed) to identify himself and the vessel and its length, and show proof of insurance and a current yacht club card.

Authorized Users
Members of the following organizations are authorized to reserve and use the guest dock:
             * American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291
             * American Legion Yacht Club
             * Reciprocating Yacht Clubs
Others may be authorized to use the guest dock if engaged in activities or duties related to the betterment of the American Legion or the American Legion Yacht Club.

Reservations
Reservations are required to use the guest dock, both for overnight stays, and  for daytime temporary tie-up. The guest dock can be reserved for no more than three consecutive nights. Call the American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 office at (949) 673-5070 to reserve dates and times for the guest dock, providing name of the skipper, name of the vessel, and its length and yacht club affiliation. Office hours are 0900 to 1700, Monday through Friday.  During hours in which the office is closed, authorization to use the guest dock may be requested from the bartender at (949) 673-1701. During some special American Legion and American Legion Yacht Club events (Opening Day, Fourth of July, Sail for the Visually impaired, etc.), use of the guest dock is  reserved for specifically authorized participating vessels.

Daytime Temporary Docking without Reservations
If the guest dock is not otherwise occupied, authorized visitors may tie up during American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 operating hours on a first-come-first-served, temporary basis to attend special events or to visit the American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 or the American Legion Yacht Club. Upon arrival, the skipper must proceed to the Post 291 office (or the bartender, if the office is closed) to verify that the guest dock has not already been reserved and to provide all required information and an expected time of departure.

Overnight Docking
Overnight docking is not permitted without a reservation. The fee for overnight use of the guest dock is $20.00 per night for all authorized users. Special exceptions may be made (for individuals and vessels engaged in American Legion or American Legion Yacht Club activities or duties related to the betterment of the American Legion or the American Legion Yacht Club). Payment of docking fees must be arranged upon arrival, with the American Legion Newport Harbor Post 291 office (or with the bartender if the office is closed). For any vessel occupying the guest dock overnight, it is mandatory that at least one person remain onboard the vessel overnight.
